Tributes From Grandchildren
The following are comments from our grandchildren, starting with Melissa, our second oldest granddaughter. Melissa, who at the time of this writing was 11 years old and the eldest daughter of my eldest son, Ray.
She is now a Nurse Practioner, of long standing, with three beautiful daughters of her own!
"MY GRANDMA:
Character counts. Trustworthiness,
Respect, Responsibility, Justice and Fairness, Caring, Civic Virtue, Citizenship.
Her full name is Charlotte Faye
Clark or better known as Faye Clark. She was born June 18, 1939. Her birthday
is the day after mine. Trustworthiness: She was always honest. She showed
a lot of respect to everyone. Fairness: she was nice and fair to all people
she ever knew. Caring: she was so caring there was never a time she was
not caring. Citizenship: she is a good Citizen. She wore a lot of jewelry
especially rings, one on every finger. She loved Tweety and Elmo. Her two
favorite colors are yellow and green. She loved us (the Grandchildren)
like her life. She was patient and listened to what you needed to say.
She has suffered a lot through the years. Just because of cancer. She has
had cancer for about 2 1/2 years. She died of cancer. She died at the age
of 58. On January 12, 1998, she died in her sleep. My Grandma worked for
Sears for over 30 years."
These next comments come from Alanna, the oldest daughter of my daughter. She was 6 1/2 years old
at the time of this writing and loved her Grandma very much. She is now a grown woman.
"I love Grandma so much
and she did so much for me. It was good to have a grandmother like Grandma.
She bought me lots of things for my birthdays and Christmas. She always
bought cascarones and helped us dye eggs. Grandma took me to eat at Luby's,
McDonalds, and BurgerKing. She took me to see Disney On Ice, SeaWorld,
Fiesta Texas, and to the store. My Grandma was fun. I love Grandma as much
as the world. I was sad when Grandma went to Heaven. Things that Grandma
liked were Tweety, Coca-Cola and her grandchildren. She was a good cook.
I helped take care of Grandma when she was sick."
These next comments come from my oldest granddaughter, Christy, daughter of my youngest son. Christy,
unknown to anyone at the time, was to be born with Spina Bifida and severe curvature of the spin. She has overcome many problems. She became the
light of our life. Faye loved her so very much. Unknown to us, we would only have Christy for 25 years... At that age in her life, she sucummed to
a stroke in her sleep that took her life. She has been so greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
"I am Christy Clark, oldest
of Grandma's grandchldren. I was born on May 13, 1986. I was born with
Spina Bifida. As a result, I have been paralyzed from the waist down ever
since and use a wheelchair to get around. I know that I held a special
place in Grandma's heart because I was the first born grandchild and because
I was handicapped. I know this because she told me I was very special to
her so many times. She said each of her grandchildren were special in their
own way. She never treated me like I was handicapped. She gave me so much
love as I was growing up. Because I live out of town, I did not get to
see her as often as I liked. I lived for the weekends when Grandma and
Grandpa would meet my Mom or Dad halfway to take me to their place for
the weekend. Grandma would always give me so much love, take good care
of me, and shower me with presents. She loved me a lot. Grandma was kind,
happy, fun to be with, caring and always there for me when I needed her.
Grandma liked to play games,
and we spent many long hours on weekends or during the week when I got
to stay for longer periods, playing games and cards of many types. She
taught me how to play Shanghai Rummy, which I like to play a lot. Usually,
I lost, but had a good time playing with her. Easter was a special time
for me because we would color Easter eggs with Grandma, hide them and the
cascarone eggs she would buy. All my cousins and I would hunt for the eggs,
me in my wheelchair, with my Dad, uncles or Grandpa pushing me. We would
all have our baskets. This is also the time when my Aunts would dress all
five granddaughters in the new Easter dresses they had sewn. We would all
get our pictures taken.
Thanksgiving was fun because
Grandma would cook a lot of great food, and sometimes my Great Grandma,
who I also love a lot, would be here too. Christmas is my favorite holiday
and I loved spending it with Grandma because the house was always filled
with my family. This was the one time of the year that I got to see all
my cousins, Aunts and Uncles. We all gathered at Grandma's house for Christmas,
good food, lots of fun and exchanging of presents. Grandma always saw to
it that Santa Claus took good care of me! I know that Grandma had a very
bad time with her illness, but she never let it interfere with the caring
and love that she gave me. Even when she was the sickest she wanted to
be with me and the rest of her grandchildren. I miss her so much, but I
know she is in a better place, free of the disease that she had. I also
know that she will always be remembered by me because of the love she had
for me."
